The National Army raided two illegal mining operations in Putumayo, disrupting illicit economic activities worth more than 990 million pesos per month

Military operations against illegal mining continue to yield results in Putumayo. On this occasion, troops from the 25th Light Infantry Battalion of the 27th Brigade, in support of the Brigade Against the Illegal Exploitation of Mineral Deposits, raided two production sites engaged in the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in the rural area of El Nogal, in the municipality of Puerto Guzmán.

During the operation, authorities seized two artisanal dredges, four industrial engines, a sorting machine, 40 gallons of gasoline, 30 gallons of diesel fuel, and 25 meters of 5-inch high-pressure hose, all items used in illegal mineral extraction activities. The seized materials were turned over to the competent authority for the respective legal proceedings.

This operational outcome results in an estimated economic impact of more than 70 million pesos, corresponding to the value of the infrastructure and machinery used in this illegal activity. Similarly, it disrupts the production capacity of approximately 2,200 grams of gold per month—with a market value of 990 million pesos—significantly weakening the illicit finances of the residual organized armed group.

These actions also contribute to the protection of the department’s natural resources by countering an activity that causes serious environmental damage to the region’s water sources, soils, and ecosystems.

The National Army, through the 27th Brigade, will continue to carry out sustained operations against the illicit exploitation of mineral deposits and other illegal economic activities that affect the security, the environment, and the peace of mind of the residents of Putumayo, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the territory and the well-being of the communities.
