The National Army located and safely destroyed eight improvised explosive devices in an area inhabited by indigenous communities in Caldono, Cauca

During military operations, troops from the 7th Light Infantry Battalion of the National Army’s 29th Brigade located and carried out the controlled destruction of eight homemade improvised explosive devices in a rural area of the municipality of Caldono, Cauca.

According to preliminary information, these devices were reportedly planted by members of the Dagoberto Ramos Ortiz Structure GAO-r, with the intention of targeting communities and the military forces in this sector of the department.

The operation was carried out by the military unit’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EXDE), which conducted the technical verification, location, and subsequent controlled destruction of the explosive material found on land belonging to indigenous communities in Caldono.

This outcome represents a significant step toward neutralizing a latent threat in a sensitive area of northern Cauca, where illegal armed groups continue to resort to the use of uncontrolled improvised explosive devices to instill fear, anxiety, and harm among communities.

During the operation, troops coordinated with the communities of the Caldono reservation to carry out the necessary procedures and ensure the safety of the local population.

The National Army will continue to carry out sustained military operations to protect the civilian population, neutralize threats, and weaken the activities of organized armed groups operating in the department of Cauca.
