National Army Leads Seminar on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law

This initiative seeks to prevent and punish potential violations of human rights and IHL, while promoting an institutional policy of zero tolerance toward such conduct within military and security forces. 

Countries such as Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Colombia, and the United States participated in the meeting, as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who addressed issues related to policy formulation, human rights education and training, the strengthening of internal control systems, and cooperation with civilian authorities. These aspects are fundamental to consolidating an institutional culture based on democratic values, respect for the law, and the protection of the population.

The Human Rights Initiative currently brings together 17 allied countries and one regional organization, which work together to share experiences, build capacity, and promote common standards on human rights within the military.

In this context, the Colombian National Army has established itself as a regional leader, thanks to its progress in implementing institutional policies, creating training schools on human rights and IHL, and developing specialized training programs that enhance the comprehensive training of military personnel.

Through events such as this, the Colombian National Army reaffirms its regional leadership and its ongoing commitment to the defense of life, human dignity, and respect for human rights in the conduct of military operations.
