It neutralized two clandestine weapons caches and captured a member of the armed group. In this way, the offensive of the 12th Brigade continues to close the net on the illegal armed structures that commit crimes in the south of the country.
The first operation took place in the rural area of Portales de Zabaleta, where—thanks to coordinated efforts between the 6th Military Intelligence Battalion, the 34th Juanambú Infantry Battalion, and the Special Forces Group—operators located a clandestine cache containing military equipment of high operational value.
Found at the site were magazines for AK-47 and Bull Master rifles, more than 500 7.62-millimeter rounds, homemade grenades adapted for launch from attack drones, machine gun components, and electric detonators—all intended to increase the offensive capability of this illegal armed group.
At the same time, in the rural area of La Primavera, within the jurisdiction of the municipality of San José del Fragua, a second operation led to the discovery of another clandestine cache belonging to the same criminal organization, where the following items were found: grenades for a 40-millimeter multiple-launcher, an 81-millimeter homemade mortar with its corresponding ammunition, approximately twelve kilograms of ANFO, gunpowder, electric and homemade detonators, communications equipment, clothing exclusively used by the Military Forces, and other items used to sustain the armed group’s operations.
The discovery of these caches demonstrates this illegal group’s ongoing effort to strengthen its offensive capabilities through the covert stockpiling of explosives, weapons, and logistical supplies, with the aim of attacking law enforcement, intimidating the civilian population, and undermining the department’s stability.
In addition to these significant operational results, a member of the Border Command Structure GAO-r voluntarily surrendered to authorities in the municipality of Belén de los Andaquíes, handing over a Pietro Beretta pistol, a magazine, 30 9-millimeter rounds, and a communications radio.
All of the material was turned over to the competent authorities for the corresponding legal proceedings.
The Twelfth Brigade will continue to carry out sustained, coordinated, and high-precision military operations aimed at neutralizing threats against the population, preserving governance in the territory, and ensuring that organized armed groups continue to lose their capacity for intimidation and criminal activity.
