More than 500 soldiers are ensuring safety for travelers returning home during the long weekend in central Colombia

More than 500 soldiers, deployed at over 60 checkpoints, and nearly 26,000 personnel conducting ongoing operations in central Colombia, were directly engaged in security duties, motorized patrols, escorting vehicles on national highways, and maintaining immediate response capabilities, thereby strengthening the institutional response in coordination with the National Police, local authorities, and emergency agencies. 

The commander of the National Army’s Fifth Division, Brigadier General Carlos Ernesto Marmolejo Cumbe, highlighted the troops’ commitment to protecting Colombian families during the holiday weekend, “Our soldiers remain strategically deployed along the main roadways in the central part of the country, providing constant support to travelers and strengthening security conditions so that citizens can return safely to their destinations,” stated the senior officer. 

Likewise, the National Army reiterated its call to drivers and travelers to follow the authorities’ recommendations, respect traffic regulations, and report any suspicious activity through the hotlines provided by law enforcement. 

Through its institutional presence, ongoing checkpoints, and stability operations, the Fifth Division reaffirms its commitment to working resolutely for the safety, mobility, and well-being of Colombians during this season of heavy traffic.
