Mobile Committee on Human Rights and IHL trains Guatemalan Armed Forces

With the firm commitment to the defense of human dignity and the consolidation of legality in military operations, a Mobile Committee on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) of the National Army is carrying out a training process aimed at the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Guatemala, in Guatemala City.

For three weeks, 14 members of the Guatemalan Army will receive specialized training in fundamental topics for the responsible and professional exercise of their duties. The training covers areas such as the history, principles and sources of human rights and IHL, the Inter-American Human Rights System, the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man, control bodies such as the Office of the Attorney General and the Public Defender's Office, Operational Law, and the approach to phenomena such as gender-based violence, command responsibility, legitimate self-defense, and the proportional use of force, among other key aspects.

This academic conference, held at the facilities of the School of Human Rights in Guatemala City, represents more than a training process, it is symbolic of the regional commitment to peace, security and respect for fundamental rights.

Within the framework of the Joint Regional Security Action Plan (USCAP), this training strengthens institutional capacities in operational contexts, promoting practices aligned with the highest international standards.

The Center for International Missions and Integral Action, together with the School of Human Rights, IHL and Legal Affairs, reaffirm their commitment to continuous training, international cooperation and the promotion of a trained military force, respectful of the law and guarantor of fundamental rights in all scenarios: local, regional and global.
