Deep within the jungle and hidden among the vegetation of the rural area of Alto Afán in the municipality of Mocoa, troops from the 25th Light Infantry Battalion of the 27th Brigade located this illegal cache.
The military operation, carried out as part of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, received judicial support from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Putumayo Police,
which led to the discovery of a considerable amount of ammonium nitrate, a substance frequently used in the manufacture of improvised explosive devices. The discovery highlights the clandestine methods allegedly used by the Second Marquetalia-Structure 48 Border Command residual organized armed group, to store and prepare materials intended for terrorist actions against the security forces and the civilian population in this southern region of the country.
During the operation, two packages of ammonium nitrate weighing 25 kilograms each were found, along with 99 containers made from approximately two-inch PVC pipes,
which contained an additional 30 kilograms of this chemical substance.According to the inspection conducted by the authorities, the material exhibited characteristics consistent with ANFO-type explosive compounds, a highly destructive mixture frequently used in criminal acts.
In total, approximately 80 kilograms of ammonium nitrate were neutralized and subsequently destroyed in a controlled manner, thereby preventing this material from being used in attacks that could endanger the safety of communities and law enforcement in the department. This operational result represents a direct blow to the logistical and criminal capabilities of the illegal groups operating in Putumayo,
weakening their terrorist and violent activities in the region. This case was referred to the Attorney General’s Office to proceed with the respective legal proceedings.
The 27th Brigade will continue to conduct sustained military operations, reaffirming its commitment to security, the protection of the civilian population, and the stability of the department of Putumayo.Source:
