As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capabilities in science, technology, and innovation, the Colombian National Army, through the School of Military Communications, is participating in the RSM Challenge 2026 International Robotics Championship, one of the most prominent competitions in Latin America, in which teams from different countries design, build, and pit robots against each other in technical and combat tests.
The competition takes place from April 17 to 21 in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, and brings together students and universities competing in various robotics categories. Its focus is on the design and programming of functional robots, participation in combat matches or technical tests according to each category, and the promotion of innovation, engineering, and teamwork.
The National Army delegation consists of Major José David Hernández Sepúlveda, Second Lieutenant Pablo Enrique Sierra Velandia, Second Lieutenant Laura Daniela Robles Montero, First Sergeant Jonathan Rodríguez Rivera, First Sergeant Julián Vera Martínez, Second Sergeant Ubaldo Pérez Quiñónez, and Corporal Yariserh Pérez Gutiérrez, who are part of the Communications School’s training program and were selected for their capabilities and skills to represent the country in this international competition.
The military team’s challenge consists of designing robots that comply with specific rules regarding design, weight, and operation, and competing against teams from different countries, where skills such as strategy, endurance, control, and technological performance are evaluated.
Participation in the RSM Challenge 2026 is the result of a rigorous process of training, coaching, and skill development in strategic areas such as robotics, programming, electronics, automation, and the development of applied technological solutions, essential knowledge in an environment marked by digital transformation and innovation.
These international forums provide opportunities to further consolidate military education and strengthen the capabilities of officers and non-commissioned officers trained at the Center for Military Education (CEMIL). The presence of the Colombian delegation in Brazil reaffirms the role of military education as a driver of transformation and the development of strategic capabilities, highlighting the quality of the training provided by IU CEDOC - School of Communications through its undergraduate program in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications.
