As part of institutional processes aimed at strengthening leadership and operational continuity, the Fourth Division of the National Army appointed Lieutenant Colonel Cristhian Camilo Botina Ayala as the new commander of the 52nd Jungle Battalion CR José Dolores Solano, a unit with a strategic presence in the department of Vaupés.The officer takes on this important challenge with a firm commitment to contributing to security, stability, and the strengthening of territorial control in a region characterized by its geographical conditions and its strategic importance for the Colombian Amazon.
With more than 21 years of service in the institution, Lieutenant Colonel Botina Ayala has demonstrated leadership, discipline, and dedication, serving in operational, administrative, and intelligence positions in various units of the National Army.
Throughout his career, he has served as a company commander, operations officer, intelligence officer, executive, and second-in-command of the 3rd High Mountain Battalion Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo, as well as an organization and planning officer at the 5th Brigade Command. He also served as a military district commander.
His career includes service in units such as the 6th Mechanized Infantry Battalion Cartagena, the 14th Infantry Battalion Captain Antonio Ricaurte, the 35th Infantry Battalion Héroes del Güepí, and the 19th Counterinsurgency Battalion Cacique Calima, where he has contributed to the conduct of military operations and the strengthening of security in various regions of the country.
He has training in the command and administration of military units, operational tactical intelligence, urban maneuvers, and the Lancero course (an elite commando and survival training program), which supports his ability to take on this new challenge with operational strength and strategic judgment.
Throughout his career, he has been honored with decorations such as the Antonio Nariño Order of Military Merit, the Wounded in Action Military Medal, the José María Córdova Order of Military Merit, and the Distinguished Service Medal, which recognize his commitment and dedication in the line of duty.Similarly, the Fourth Division of the National Army recognizes and commends the outstanding work of Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Vargas López, the outgoing commander, for his commitment, leadership, and achievements on behalf of the community of Cururú, Vaupés. The new commander has been appointed to consolidate military operations, strengthen territorial control, and maintain ongoing coordination with civilian authorities, all in the interest of ensuring peace and well-being for the people of Vaupés.
