National Army strengthens security along the border between Quindío and Valle del Cauca

The military units, highly trained to operate in hard-to-reach terrain, conduct territorial control operations through permanent patrols, checkpoints, and the deployment of motorized platoons that constantly traverse these strategic sectors, considered mobility corridors that could be used by organized armed groups.

The Secretary of the Interior of Quindío traveled to this part of the department, along with the Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of the Eighth Brigade and officials from the National Police, to verify the progress of military operations on the ground and to gain firsthand insight into the security perceptions of residents in this highland area of the department.

During the visit, civilian and military authorities engaged with the community, who expressed their support for the institutional presence and highlighted the troops’ ongoing efforts to protect their territories, especially in light of the recent acts of violence recorded in the departments of Valle del Cauca and Cauca.

The National Army reaffirms that, thanks to this operational deployment, security in the department of Quindío is being strengthened, preventing the presence of criminal structures such as the residual organized armed group known as the 57th Front Yair Bermúdez, which seeks to expand its illicit activities into this region.

In a coordinated effort, the Gaula Militar Eje Cafetero is intensifying its preventive and operational actions against the crime of extortion, protecting farmers, coffee growers, and other economic sectors, with the aim of fostering conditions of peace and development in the region.

Currently, more than 600 soldiers are deployed in the department of Quindío, men and women with specialized skills, prepared to confront any threat and safeguard the security of the civilian population.
