National Army strategic operation thwarts terrorist plans in Guaviare

As part of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, troops from the 24th Jungle Infantry Battalion, part of the 22nd Jungle Brigade, recently located an illegal explosives cache belonging to the residual organized armed group (GAO-r), Estructura Primera, in the rural area of Agua Bonita Alta, municipality of Calamar, Guaviare.

Through territorial control operations and offensive actions, this clandestine cache was identified, containing explosive material and items used to undermine security in the region. During the operation, a 30-liter canister, 11 improvised explosive devices, four electric detonators, a 100-pound cylinder-type launch device, two meters of copper wire, four meters of safety fuse, a scarf bearing the GAO-r Estructura Primera insignia, and a battery were found.

Such devices pose a serious threat to the civilian population and constitute a violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, as they endanger the lives and safety of the area’s residents, particularly children and adolescents. Furthermore, they demonstrate these armed groups’ intent to inflict indiscriminate harm on the community.

The 22nd Jungle Brigade strongly condemns the use of such illicit practices by organized armed groups. These actions will be reported to the competent authorities to initiate the respective investigative and judicial proceedings.

In this way, the National Army will continue to carry out sustained military operations in the department of Guaviare, with the aim of neutralizing threats and contributing to the stability of the territory.
