In a sustained offensive against illicit economies in the southern part of the country, the National Army continues to weaken the financial arm of residual organized armed groups through military operations that led to the location and destruction of laboratories used for processing coca paste in the department of Putumayo.
As part of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, troops from the 27th Field Artillery Battalion, part of the National Army’s 27th Brigade,
located and dismantled three laboratories used for processing coca paste in the department of Putumayo, belonging to the residual organized armed group Second Marquetalia, Border Command structure.
The first operation was carried out in conjunction with the National Police’s Anti-Narcotics Directorate in the rural area of La Cumbre, in the municipality of Puerto Asís, where the structure of the laboratory used for processing narcotics was dismantled. At the site, authorities found 150 gallons of gasoline, 140 kilograms of coca leaves, 10 kilograms of lime, and plastic containers of various sizes.
Simultaneously, in the rural areas of Arizona, in the municipality of Puerto Caicedo, and El Triunfo, in Puerto Asís, troops located and dismantled two additional laboratories for processing coca base paste. On this occasion, they found 90 gallons of gasoline, 165 kilograms of coca leaves, 30 kilograms of ammonium sulfate, 37 kilograms of Nutrimon, and a fumigation pump used for processing narcotics.
This operational approach allows for a significant impact on the drug trafficking production chain, limiting the ability of these criminal structures to process and market illicit substances. Likewise, it reduces the flow of illegal funds that finance criminal activities threatening the security and peace of mind of the department’s civilian population.
Through these operations, the 27th Brigade of the National Army continues to deal a decisive blow to the illicit economies of the residual organized armed groups operating in the south of the country, weakening their logistical and financial capabilities and thereby contributing to the region’s security.
