Juan Manuel Santos Calderón
He was born on August 10th of 1951. He was a cadet at the Naval School at Cartagena, studied Economy and Enterprise Administration and postgraduate studies at the Harvard University and Fletcher School of Laws and Diplomacy.
He worked as Chief of the Colombian Delegation at the International Coffee Organization in London. Was the last designated to the Republics Presidency and the first Foreign Trade minister. Also Minister of economic affairs and National Defense. In that public office he was the leader of the Democratic Security Policy.
He created the Good Government Foundation and the U Party at 2005, which is the most powerful majority nowadays.
He practiced the journalism as Columnist and Sub director of El Tiempo. He received the Rey de España price and was President of the Free Expression Commission of the Inter American Press Society. He published several books; among them is Tercera Vía, which he wrote with the former British minister Tony Blair, and Jaque al Terror, in which is described the most powerful strikes received by the Farc during his period in front of the Defense Ministry.
On June 20 of 2010 after obtaining the first place on the presidential election, made on May 30th of the same year-, was chosen as the President of the Colombian Republic for a four years period, from august 7th of 2010 to August 7th of 2014. He had over 9 million votes, the highest obtained by any other candidate in the history of Colombian democracy.
After his campaign the offered to lead a Government of National Unity in which there is a transition from Democratic Security to Democratic Prosperity.
President Santos is married with Ms Maria Clemencia Rodriguez and has three children: Martin (21), Maria Antonia (19) and Esteban.
