In a solemn military ceremony held at the General José María Córdova Military Cadet School (ESMIC), 53 women and 32 men received the national flag, the supreme symbol of honor, commitment, and loyalty to Colombia. There, the traditional flag presentation ceremony was held for the new group of students who are formally beginning their training process. In front of their superiors, family members, and classmates, they made a commitment to serve the nation with discipline, courage, and respect for institutional principles.
The ceremony was presided over by Colonel Giovanni Torres Silva, Chief of Staff and Second in Command of the Army Recruitment and Reserve Control Command, who highlighted the historical and moral significance of carrying the national flag. During his speech, he pointed out that receiving the flag is not only a formal act, but also a public declaration of absolute dedication to the service of Colombia and the defense of its sovereignty, independence, and constitutional order.
Among this group of 85 young people, 12 women from the Army Recruitment and Reserve Control Command stood out. They successfully completed their effective incorporation process on November 1, 2025, and spent three months adapting to military discipline, conditioned themselves through progressive physical training (endurance, strength, conditioning), trained in weapons handling and safety, patrolling, basic survival, and learned to live under military principles, forging their character, endurance, and resilience, developing tactical skills, and building institutional identity. In this way, today they are advancing in their training as SL12 and SL18 soldiers.
These young people represent the commitment, discipline, and dedication to service that characterize those who decide to take on the challenge of wearing the uniform and leading by example. In a ceremony steeped in symbolism, the students, lined up in impeccable formation, listened to the reading of the institutional commitment, reaffirming their decision to join the National Army and serve under the highest ethical and professional standards. The central moment came when each of the young people received the flag, a gesture that marks the beginning of a new stage in their lives, characterized by academic demands, physical training, and military leadership training.
The participation of these 12 women demonstrates the strengthening of the recruitment process carried out by the National Army's Recruitment and Reserve Control Command, consolidating opportunities for more women to take an active part in the defense of the country. Their presence at the Military Academy symbolizes institutional progress in terms of equity, leadership, and professionalization.
With this solemn ceremony, the National Army reaffirms its commitment to training leaders of integrity, capable of facing contemporary challenges with professionalism and respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.
The institution continues to strengthen its recruitment and training processes, consolidating a more prepared, modern force that is closer to the inhabitants.
