Colombia strengthens its humanitarian demining capabilities with a new cohort of specialized instructors

An official ceremony marked the conclusion of the III-2025 National Humanitarian Demining Monitor Course, in which one officer and five non-commissioned officers from the National Army, five non-commissioned officers from the Marine Infantry, and one fourth technician from the Colombian Air Force received their certification after completing the program's demanding theoretical and practical phases.

With this new class, the country now has 279 trained monitors, strengthening institutional capacities for the location, marking, auditing, and monitoring of explosive ordnance clearance operations in urban and rural areas.

The course aims to train officers and noncommissioned officers of the Armed Forces as National Humanitarian Demining Monitors, ensuring high standards in the monitoring, auditing, and accreditation of demining activities. The training allows participants to deal with areas containing explosive devices with technical and operational expertise, strengthening their professional development through the knowledge, use, and application of the skills acquired.

It also responds to the powers established by law for the general inspection of the General Command of the Armed Forces and the general inspections of the Forces, integrating a solid pedagogical structure with the expertise of the Inter-American Defense Board, through GATI-CO (Inter-American Technical Advisory Group), which provides experience and support in scenarios designed for this purpose.
