Captured alleged regional leader of the Clan del Golfo in southern Casanare

Troops of the National Army and the Attorney General's Office, in an inter-institutional work against the organized armed group (GAO) Clan del Golfo, during the development of a military operation, made effective an arrest warrant against the alleged regional leader of this illegal structure, in the south of Casanare.

The operation was carried out in the urban sector of the municipality of Maní, Casanare, where soldiers of the Military Gaula and the Gaula CTI arrived, to make effective a judicial order against alias Luna or Fresa, for the crimes of aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime and aggravated extortion. This person is accused of being the regional leader of a commission of the Gonzalo Oquendo Urrego substructure of the GAO Clan del Golfo, which commits crimes in the south of the department of Casanare.

According to investigative and intelligence work, this subject would be in charge of ordering, directing, and participating in extortion, homicides, forced displacement, kidnappings, and intimidation of merchants, farmers, businessmen, contractors, oil companies and palm trees, and the general population of the municipalities of Aguazul, Tauramena, Maní, Yopal, Villanueva and Monterrey.

Likewise, he would have received the order to execute the terrorist attacks against mobility, through the indiscriminate burning of vehicles and the pistol plan against members of the Public Force in the department of Casanare, in retaliation for the extradition of his top leader, alias Otoniel.

He is also being investigated for a homicide that occurred on September 20, 2021; the massacre of three people on 7 January 2022, when the victims were attacked with a rifle; there two more people were seriously injured; also of the homicide of a man, on May 5. All these events occurred in the urban area of the municipality of Maní, Casanare.

The captured were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for the crimes of aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime, aggravated extortion, and homicide.

In this way, the National Army will continue to carry out forceful military operations to counteract the factors of instability in this region of the country, attacking organized armed groups responsible for human rights violations and violations of the provisions of international humanitarian law against the civilian population and the Public Force.
