One Private is getting ready for deactivating an IED, disseminated by illegally armed groups
COLAR in order to provide peace and security to inhabitants in the National Territory, since 2005, has been performing a series of tasks regarding humanitarian demining, by creating military units specialized on this topic, like 60th Demining Battalion, Coronel Gabino Gutierrez.
This military unit has highly trained and certified men, completely and strictly fulfilling the established procedures both in the National Protocol and in the International Demining Standards.
Likewise, this battalion was also activated in compliance with Article V of the Ottawa Convention, where Colombia pledged before the OAS General Secretariat to destroy all antipersonnel mines indiscriminately disseminated by illegal organizations.
Currently, this special military unit complies with tasks in 7 municipalities, which have been prioritized by the presidential program Comprehensive Action against Antipersonnel Mines and in addition they also work in decontamination of zones affected by IEDs and unexploded ammunitions in Antioquia, Caldas, Santander, and Bolivar.
These activities testify of the capability and progress of the Institution in terms of humanitarian demining, destroying in a controlled way IEDs and unexploded ammunitions in different regions of the national territory restoring in this way peace to all Colombians.
