Inside the institution I grew not only as a person but as a professional, I learned how to be useful and serve to society.
Corporal Carlos Andres Montoya Hurtado, since he was very young dreamed of being a military member: I used to find them with their health brigades and helping farmers in different tasks like building roads and even houses. When I saw them performing these tasks, I saw them like heroes. Years later these child games turned into real, and shortly after finishing his high school in 2004, he entered to the Professional Privates School, and afterwards he was part of an extra-ordinary NCO course, thanks to his excellent performance.
When he was seeing one of his goals accomplished, the Holy Thursday of 2010, his life changed. After a harrying from FARC to his company, one mortar grenade fell on his feet, the bomb surprised me and I felt how everything turned dark, I felt the blood in my face. In that moment, your life passes as a movie, you remind even people from your past, concludes.
After being treated in the area and moved to a hospital, Corporal Montoya had to begin a new life. He had to start from zero and rebuild everything he had been about to lose forever in a second; he learned how to read and write in Braille system, he learned how to walk by himself and how to get by in his new life style.
After a while, this Colombian Hero is now providing instruction to privates on how to assembly and disassembly a rifle, he also teaches about military emblems, gives lectures in the Instruction and Training Battalion of the Fourth Army Brigade, and every week he visits patients and victims of IEDs. I want to be an example there are reasons for continuing living and fighting for our country, despite of the fact that I lost my eyes, there are motives to have Faith in Cause, because as he says life continues and you have to live it.
