Perez, has been 17 years serving his country, feels proud of the work that he has carried out in the Army. As many of his partners has felt physical and affective pain that this work brings. Being a soldier implies a total delivery of feelings and a series of qualities like the companionship, perseverance, union and braveness. These are some of the characteristics of our men and of soldier Perez who has taught to all of those that come behind him through the years.
Perez has spent half of his life serving his country, his tenacity and behavior has maintained him in the same battalion since the day he enlisted, thanks to the missions that have been assigned he has had the opportunity to travel around our country and enjoy the Colombians human heat.
Reason why those arduous years of work have been rewarded. Perez is one of the 120 Colombian Army professional soldiers selected by his merits to travel to the Sinaí (Egypt) to represent our men in the Colombia Battalion No 3.Tthere are 190 people that integrate the No. 79 mission composed by professional soldiers, recruits, officers, NCOs and civilians. That will fulfill the peace mission, but the most important work will be the one of demonstrating that Colombia is a country with talented people.
The men chosen as Colombia Battalion No. 3 representatives are those that stand out in their work due to their capacities and discipline, being able of guaranteeing success, agility, strength, firmness and the Colombian military good name.
The 190 men that are part of the mission No. 79 will remain there 8 months, in this time they will get ready to participate in the Forced Skill the MFO most representative competition. This competition lasts 3 days and consists on presenting high level tests such as: Tarzan jump, balance, handrails, low haulage, high wall, serpentine, evacuation procedures, airships recognition hints, vehicles and several written exams that complete the test.
The Colombia Battalion No. 3 maintains its presence in the MFO operations area (Multinational Peace Forces & Observers) that since October 8 1981 and with the purpose of the surveillance to avoid activities that could threaten the Camp David Peace agreements signed in 1978 and the Peace Treaty in 1979, signed between Israel and Egypt.
The MFO has the area distributed by sectors, our men, for example, has The "C" Area asssigned this place has an extension of 11.620 Km2 where the Colombia Battalion No. 3 maintains the control on 4.400 Km2. The northern part of the Area C is controlled by the Fiji Army; the southern part is controlled by the North American Army.
The Sinai is a 5 stars Battalion; for that reason our men give everything in their works, so that one day they could win a reward "it is a very special prize, it is the dream of all the soldiers."
For the professional soldier Perez the trip represents his first opportunity to leave the country. For that reason in this unique opportunity he wants to learn about new cultures with those that he will cohabit with, he will have the opportunity to share with 1.800 soldiers from 11 countries and to visit the biggest attractive: Tierra Santa, "our Jesus Christ homeland", Perez explains.
For the Colombian Army its men well-being is the most important thing, requirements for the trip such as passport, visa, pasado judicial past and tickets are provided by the institution that facilitates the execution of this stimulus.
Although they are many the expectations it also terrifies him not being able to communicate with the other members, because the MFO’s official language in the Sinai is English. It won't be an inconvenient for our men, because in this occasion two regular soldiers from the No. 79 speak this language, they will also collaborate as translators.
Pérez is a man that inspires trust and tranquility to his partners, he knows that to be a very prepared and homogeneous group nothing will go wrong in the trip, in some months he will return to Colombia with the suitcase full with pictures, anecdotes and memories that for him will always last in his mind and in his heart.
