That is in fact one of the memories that he has from his childhood, although he doesn't like to speak about that it motivates him, as soldier, to make an effort and to fight to defeat those that day by day hurt the country spilling the blood of the innocent people..
Why begin this series of chronicles with soldier Pinzon? Because this 27 year-old man has not surrendered in his objective of defending his country although in three opportunities he has been about to lose his life and his sacrifice has taken him away from its family, because its history is the history of hundred of our soldiers in all Colombia whose work is not recognized as it should be by the citizens which they defend and for those who sacrifice in many opportunities its well-being.
This is his story
Soldier Pinzon arrived a few days ago to Bogotá to work as internal courier at the Integral Action Department to collaborate as internal courier while he finishes recovering from several wounds suffered in combat..
Born in Coscuez municipality, Boyacá Department has a beautiful nine months old daughter called Maria Fernanda. She is his most precious treasure.
As many youths, soldier Pinzon ended his military service in 1999 with the illusion that if he liked the military life his future would be as a professional soldier. Once he ended his military service and thanks to his good performance he was invited to stay at the army as a professional soldier being part of the first group that integrated the plan 10.000.
His military history began at the south of the Bolivar Department where for the first time he was wounded in combat. After recovering he carried on with his mission as a soldier in the national territory and after certain time he was injured again, this time in confrontations against the Farc guerrilla in the place known as La Fuente, Santander department, when he was part of the Galan Battalion.
Thanks to his courage it was granted to him the Santa Barbara’s medal, being transferred to the Special Forces, exactly to the No. 4 Special Forces Battalion.
In spite of the wounds, this didn't make him decrease its force or its spirit and continued in his fight for a better country for his children. Once he ended his patrolling in this place his Battalion was transferred to the Meta Department in which were killed in combat 80 guerilla fighters in an important operation.
Amid life and death
Later, soldier Pinzon together with several of his “Lanzas” was sent to Puerto Toledo municipality urban area carry out the search of alias John 40 who, according to the information received, the bandit was in that place.
There, in the urban area, in moments in which they were in their way to the main square, suddenly exploded in countless pieces the park hotel, one of the main constructions from this town being totally destroyed after being activated by remote control a high explosive power bomb
For the third time soldier Pinzon was wounded again. But this time was different because the explosion made him lose one of his right hand fingers, besides he got wounded in his face and in one of his shoulders, besides multiple splinters that penetrated its body, wounds that for him are as medals that he carries with great courage and pride for as if they were treasures obtained in war.
"This has been one of the hardest experiences in my life, not only because physically I was gravely affected but because that day was the first time in my work as soldier that I saw how an innocent child was totally destroyed by the action of a terrorist attack."
Not the children
Why the children? He has always asked to itself. Why do the children suffer for a war that doesn't belong to them or to their parents that they don't understand? That afternoon, the day of the hotel explosion, two children more died and around 12 civilians were also seriously wounded.
When soldier Pinzon was going to be evacuated of the area, after receiving the first aids, he waived his place in the helicopter in which he would be taken out of that place so that they could take out the civilians that were severely wounded and could be assisted as soon as possible.
"These are worthwhile sacrifices, they are valuable lives that are entitled to continue continuing living, that’s why I am a soldier because I know that with my life and with my effort many lives could feel secure."
This is why our "Anonymous Hero" arrived to Bogotá and it is why today he is with us, in fact recovering from the wounds that he suffered in that terrorist attack. What are your dreams? Traveling to Bangkok with his wife and daughter that at the moment live in Santander, he also dreams in finishing his high school and to study a technical career that has not still defined… he dreams… Pinzon dreams with a thousand things that he wants to teach to the woman of his life, his daughter Maria Fernanda.
