Hidden in the brush, set up where troops and civil population normally walk, during the last few hours soldiers from Artillery Battalion 9 ‘Tenerife’, have located and destroyed four gas cylinder bombs loaded with shrapnel and explosives.
The first unearthing took place in the village of La Libertad, jurisdiction of the municipality of Baraya. At this place, and using a metal detector as well as a canine mine finder, troops managed to discover and deactivate two gas cylinder bombs each loaded with 40 pounds of explosives and set up by FARCs ‘Teófilo Forero’ squad.
The actions counteracting terrorists from FARC continue in the vicinity of Río Negro in the municipality of Tello; an area that has been scenario for subversive operations from the ‘Angelino Godoy’ faction of FARC, booby-trapping the roadways with improvised explosive devices, aimed at slowing down the progress of the troops.
In a rural area, Army troops located two other gas cylinder bombs filled with shrapnel and explosives hidden among the brush and ready to be set off. It was necessary to calling Army explosives experts to detonate the devices in a controlled manner.
In the same place, soldiers found a cachet, where guerrillas had stashed 7.62 mm ammunition, electric detonators, camping equipment, among other war material and uniforms.
